BIODIESEL REFINERY IN ISANTI Ever Cat Fuels aims to put a dent in the amount of oil we import by turning weeds and algae, among other things, into diesel. The inaugural plant also embodies a much larger aspiration: that the "Mcgyan" low-energy, no-waste process will eventually put a dent in the 200 billion gallons of mostly imported fuel burned annually in America. The McNeff family and associates have invested millions and three years of research to achieve the grand opening this week of Ever Cat Fuels, a $9 million pilot plant designed to produce up to 4 million gallons of clean diesel fuel annually. The inaugural plant embodies a much larger aspiration: that the "Mcgyan" low-energy, no-waste process will eventually put a dent in the 200 billion gallons of mostly imported fuel burned annually in America... Ric Larson, BioCat CEO, made the announcement. “We now know the cutting-edge Mcgyan technology works, and it is proving to be clean, efficient and dependable. The time is right to increase biodiesel production using this process. It's good for the environment. It's good for the nation.”
THE MOST PORTABLE BIODIESEL PROCESSOR IN THE WORLD Tuesday, May 19 Don Shelby, WCCO, featured the Mcgyan process and bio diesel experts including Clayton McNeff on Project Energy. It's revolutionary technology and one step closer to energy independence. It's a new way to make biodiesel fuel that was invented right here in Minnesota. But now that technology has "gone up a notch" through the work of college students. They have created the most portable biodiesel system in the world. What now fits in the back of a pick up truck, used to be as big as four trailers. Project Energy first told you about it about a year ago. Taking an idea from Brian Krohn -- Clayton McNeff, Augsburg Professor Arlin Gyberg and Ben Yan developed this process using zirconia. Known as the Mcgyan process, it can change anything with oil -- pine trees, soybeans, used cooking oil, even algae -- into biodiesel. There's no water and no waste. And it's cheap.... POND FULL OF SCUM PRODUCES A local company produces diesel for $1.25 to $1.75 a gallon. And that attracted the interest of financiers, scientists and Uncle Sam. A Minnesota biofuels company that has attracted visits from financiers, scientists, customers and the federal government has produced a clean diesel fuel from algae harvested from a pond next door to its Anoka County plant. The development could prove big for the alternative-fuels business and the Midwest economy. Clayton McNeff, a chemist and veteran industrialist, said his family-owned SarTec Corp. has perfected a three-year-old "continuous flow" process and produces about 1,000 gallons of diesel weekly for $1.25 to $1.75 per gallon from a variety of feedstocks that range from restaurant and ethanol-plant waste oils to non-edible crops and plain old pond scum. "We see this as revolutionary technology, and we're not trying to keep it a secret," said McNeff, 40, who recently published a peer-reviewed scientific paper....... Download PDF AURI was created and funded by the Minnesota legislature to foster long-term economic benefit through increased business and employment opportunities to rural Minnesota through: (1) the identification and expansion of existing markets for new or existing commodities, ingredients and products; (2) the development of new uses or value improvements for Minnesota agricultural commodities; and (3) the development of renewable energy opportunities from Minnesota agricultural commodities and co-products. BIODIESEL'S NEXT STAGE? We continue to get good media coverage of our progress towards the opening of the Ever Cat Fuels biodiesel plant in Isanti, MN. Twin Cities Business Magazine featured BioCat's technology and new biodiesel plant in the April 2009 issue. Download PDF. SARTEC CORPORATION HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CHANGE THE RENEWABLE FUELS INDUSTRY On February 4th, 2009 our friends at SarTec Corporation
in Anoka, MN hosted a tour and luncheon that featured Nobel Prize winning
chemist Dr. Peter Agre. Dr. Agre toured the pilot plant at the SarTec
headquarters and had glowing remarks for the future of the Mcgyan process.
After his visit to Anoka Dr. Agre was a guest on Don Shelby's
WCCO radio show where their nearly 30 minute conversation was focused
specifically on the great potential for the Mcgyan™ process. Dr
Agre has authored a letter of support for SarTec Corporation and the
Mcgyan process. In this letter Dr. Agre states: "The biodiesel production technology being developed by SarTec
Corporation has the potential to change the renewable fuels industry
in terms of the
feedstocks it can use and by the fact that it produces virtually no waste
to pollute air or
water. This technology has the potential to help with energy security
and climate change.
These are two of the most important issues we face in terms of our country's
economic
future as well for the environment." We are actively working to secure a location for our first plant, and we expect to make an announcement regarding our first location by December 15th. We are considering proximity to feedstock, local demand for biodiesel, availability of skilled workforce, and availability of city, county and state incentive packages during the location consideration period. |
