Biodiesel is a clean burning fuel produced made from renewable feedstocks -- fat or vegetable oil, not petroleum. It can be mixed with petroleum diesel to create a blend that works in any diesel engine with few or no modifications. It is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics.

Biodiesel is a smart choice.

  • Has the highest energy content of any alternative fuel
  • Is the safest fuel to use, handle and store
  • Operates in conventional diesel engines
  • Does not require special storage
  • Reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 78 percent and burns cleaner in diesel fleets
  • Has less offensive exhaust than diesel, because it eliminates use of sulphur as a lubricant
  • B-2 (two percent biodiesel) increases the total lubricity of diesel fuel by 65 percent
  • Has similar fuel economy, horsepower and torque to petroleum diesel
  • Reduces compounds linked to cancer by 80-90 percent
  • Only alternative fuel to complete health effects testing requirements of the Clean Air Act
  • Has a full ASTM standard (American Society of Testing and Materials) to protect consumers
  • Ranks well in terms of the cost of other alternative fuels
  • Improves domestic energy security
  • Is available nationwide
  • Can be used as a replacement for heating oil (9 billion gallon market)
  • Provides 3.2 times as much energy as it takes to collect and process it, while traditional petroleum diesel consumes more energy to produce it than it provides
